Welcome Baby CK!

I'd like to welcome the second Baby CK to the world! This is the little brother to the first Baby CK (the pink afghan below, and yes, I've changed the photo so they're not both the same file). I am hard at work on the afghan for the 2nd CK, as seen here. Right now I'm not quite halfway through the body of the afghan, but I hope to make up for some lost time this week. I have a promise of hand-delivery by an honorary auntie who's going to visit June 10, and I will finish in time!

Here's a closer look at the individual blocks. The pattern is from one of those lovely free flyers you get at your favorite craft superstore, also available here. Naturally I'm using a completely different yarn and hook, yet somehow I managed to make gauge almost exactly. I generally don't get too worked up about gauge for most of my projects, because if it's a baby afghan, it doesn't really matter how large it is. If it's big enough to cover the kid, with maybe some room to grow into, then it's probably OK. On this one I was even hoping for something a bit bigger than the size listed on the pattern, so naturally I'm closer than I've ever been to making gauge for anything. Go figure.

In other news, I love Target. These are my new plates from their promotional summer kitchfest. So what if they're not microwaveable and can never be put through a dishwasher? They're cute! Although I don't have quite so much love for their Juniors' department. I mean, really, there's just no excuse for getting any result when you type in "camo gauchos" in their site search box, but look.

A final note for any lurking history buffs. This fine gentleman here is Major General John A. Logan, Civil War hero, Illinois senator, and the reason we all have Memorial Day. This statue is in Grant Park, just off of Michigan Ave and a bit south of Harrison, I believe.

That's all I've got! Please leave me a comment if you're reading, I like to know I'm not the only one looking at this! (If nothing else, please leave your theories as to why Target is selling camo gauchos. I really want to know.)

Hiatus over!

I feel sort of like I'm back from the dead or something. It's been a busy few weeks, and I'm glad to have both the year's big conference and the first insane project of the year over with. Mind you, we start work on our catalog shortly, which will be its own fresh hell. But for now I've got some time to be craftistic again.

I'm having trouble uploading pictures today, probably because the ones I want to use are too honkin' big, so I tracked down some classic Stranger columns. I clipped these out oh, so many years ago, and have saved them all this time, but it's probably a copyright violation to post my scans. So drop by The Stranger to see the entire series. Warning: Language ahead!

Stupid, Stupid Baby
Stupid, Stupid Kitten
Stupid, Stupid Crouton
You F@^#*%$ Ingrates!
Stupid, Stupid Commemorative Plates

Note for the uninitiated, The Stranger is Seattle's alternative free weekly newsmagazine. Enjoy!
